Above the Horizon

Above the Horizon: A beautiful landscape watercolor. The dark colors of the sea and sky rest together on the horizon. One of my favorite paintings that found a wonderful home. I'm happy to have prints available on Society6 for those looking to add a beautiful calm ocean watercolor to their home.

Colored Sky Watercolor

Colored Sky was painted during the summer and how I love summer evenings by the ocean or river! When the color of the water looks as wonderful as it feels and beautiful sunset skys dance across the water. I can imagine this cheerful painting bringing joy and color into someones special home. I love that I'm adding many beautiful landscapes to a site that can create prints larger than I'm capable and a beautiful quality that I would order for myself.  As each day gets darker and Fall approaches (which I equally love), I can still look and remember my little world by the sea and think of my son running in the waves as the sun was setting.

You can find Colored Sky through Society6 (28" x 38"  or smaller). I still offer beautiful prints and originals through emeraldtree.etsy.com

Snail Mail

Missing the loveliness of handmade letters, so I will create my own. Send me a message if you are needing any art in your life, I know I do everyday! Perhaps a lovely pet to remember or past home to frame on your wall or maybe custom hand painted envelopes. Lots of changes happening around here. My little guy starts Kindergarten and my mommy heart is full of so many emotions. Have a happy weekend!!

Story Book Portraits and the rabbit

Spot the Rabbit. We saw this little guy hopping around on the cliff at Laguna Beach. I remember when there were squirrels everywhere, but I would love to see bunnies all over the cliffs while sitting in the sand and watching the water!  I'm kind of loving my little magnifying glass! Plus, here is another portrait illustration. I'm not sure what to call them. Perhaps story book portraits as it seems each person has a past to tell and would deserve their own page in a story.

Portrait Illustrations

Hello! I've been working on some portraits just to change things up. I did a few yesterday and woke up excited to do more. Just one small sketch can turn into a full project. I'm contemplating doing one a day for a year, but I'm still trying to wrap my head around how that would work.  Here is a close up of the face, not sure if I'm done, probably not. Simple washes on top of a simple sketch, the possibilities are endless! Now I'm off to finish a beautiful dog watercolor for my shop! Anyone want a pet portrait watercolor in the same style as the man? I'm thinking of adding them to my shop too! The paint is still wet so he is sparkling a little.

Just found this guy that I painted last summer! I sometimes forget how many pet portraits I've done, but I will keep sharing as I sort my pictures!!

Sketchbook Birds

artist: Julia Williford
Just some quick sketches of the same little robin  bird. The wrinkles from the paper are slightly removed by Photoshop. Which reminds me, I really need to work on learning Photoshop.

artist: Julia Williford
I love the dark lines, and it makes me want to get my ink and brushes out. I usually don't paint in my sketchbook, but this was the only paper around, so wrinkled paper is what you get!

All of the birds together, sketching in watercolor always makes me happy! Imperfect sketches are key to understanding what you are drawing, working on line quality and developing the gesture. This one was more about lines and the contour. Hope you enjoy and get your brushes out if painting is your thing!
